Mission

The Operations Systems team establishes business-specific data/software requirements and produces routine reporting, added-value analysis, or new product introductions. Duties include a variety of data-related activities: gathering business requirements, implementation, optimizing application performance, and debugging as needed.

Key engagement partners are:

§  software providers (mostly RATP-group internal) to ensure technical compliance and versions alignment

§  data engineering team to develop solid source-of-truth data repositories for partner departments

§  digital team to deploy new products to company portal/servers

The Operations Data Scientist will lead efforts in extracting key insights/value from high-volume systems such as timetables, rosters, schedules, ridership data, and train control and monitoring systems. This will require:

-          familiarity of fundamental statistics and libraries for handling date/time datatypes

an acquired understanding of modern train/metro operation

Profile

Key responsibilities:

-          Perform standard and non-standard data and numerical transformations programmatically

-          Maintain and update a growing library of department-specific programs and visualizations

-          Design, develop, administer, and maintain business intelligence digitalized reporting solutions utilizing Qlik Sense, Microsoft Power BI

-          Develop dynamic visual dashboards to support operational needs

-          Develop business intelligence solutions and analytics products for all departments and units as needed

-          Optimize existing programs and deploy for business users

-          Maintain a growing library of department-specific programs and visualizations

-          Liaise with software vendors, internal users, and clients to achieve desired features and performance

-          Apply different project management techniques and uphold high documentation and communication standards.

Typical activities:

-          Partner with operational departments to define, develop solid data streams, and manipulate KPI data

-          Investigate edge cases with relevant departments and interpret required code changes

-          Optimize code for speed and performance, create and re-use functions

-          Package existing programs for end-user friendliness (interface, dynamic features, integrations…)

-          Maintain repos & annotations for other developers and user guides business users

-          Attend business meetings and operations to collect/forecast requirements and develop pilot applications

-          Maintain all work in progress and action tracking on accessible locations for all relevant parties

-        Set up regular rhythms with each department       

-          Develop and build new Qlik Sense applications

-          Maintain data lake and Qlik Sense data integrations and utilization

-          Occasionally restructure source data; influence the transition to clean data structures from the source

-          Manage access to relevant SharePoint locations and business applications for all stakeholders

-          Make the best use of the company’s existing software packages. Work closely with product owners and development teams on custom developments

-          Upskill colleagues and develop short briefs on use of new/useful features

-          Increase adoption of company tools and portals

-          Package or deploy applications as needed

QUALIFICATIONS

-          Bachelor’s degree is preferred in Computer Science, Mathematics or related fields.

-          Additional certifications in related fields such as data science, visualization technologies, …

 

KNOWLEDGE

-          Proficiency in at least one high-level programming language

-          Understanding of relational database (SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle, etc). This includes the ability to write SQL queries.

-          Understanding of dynamic data visualization and data analytics

-          Able to formulate solutions with data

-          Expert in Microsoft Office

-          Familiarity with project management software tools, methodologies, and best practices

-          English fluency is a must, French language is a plus

 

EXPERIENCE

-          3 to 5 years of experience in data science/software development

-          Experience in software development or data analysis (Python, C++)

-          Experience with data visualization tools (Qlik, Power BI, Excel)

-          Completed data science projects as a hands-on implementer

-          Understanding of corporate environment
