JOB PURPOSE: 

The Sr Power Supply Technical Engineer is responsible for overseeing all engineering activities related to the metro’s power supply infrastructure. This includes ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient delivery of electrical power to traction and auxiliary systems. The role involves leading technical support functions, auditing maintenance practices, and ensuring compliance with applicable standards and regulations. Additionally, the position plays a critical part in driving continuous improvement initiatives, planning system upgrades, and ensuring smooth integration with broader metro infrastructure systems.


Profile

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES 

System Oversight & Technical Support

Oversee the operation and maintenance of traction power systems, substations, and auxiliary power equipment.

Monitor system performance, diagnose issues, and implement proactive measures to avoid service disruptions.

Provide expert-level troubleshooting support and participate in root cause analysis of failures.

Guide maintenance staff on equipment operation, testing, and safe handling practices.

Maintenance Planning & Documentation

Develop preventive maintenance strategies aligned with system reliability targets.

Review and update maintenance plans, change orders, trials, and documentation packages.

Ensure maintenance activities are performed in accordance with documented procedures and industry standards.

Work within document management systems to control updates, versioning, and approvals.

Compliance & Safety

Ensure strict compliance with OHS regulations, ISO certifications (9001, 14001, 45001, 55001), and internal safety standards.

Lead or support internal and external audits related to power system safety and maintenance compliance.

Participate in management reviews and recommend corrective actions as required.

Monitor maintenance work for safe practices and provide technical input on safety improvements.

Asset Management & Performance Monitoring

Analyze asset performance and availability to support long-term planning and optimization.

Define spare parts, consumables, and standard maintenance task durations.

Assist with the development and maintenance of the CMMS (e.g., Maximo) for power supply assets.

Conduct annual condition surveys and prepare detailed asset health reports.

Project Support & System Upgrades

Collaborate with project teams on the design, commissioning, and integration of new or upgraded systems.

Participate in Testing & Commissioning (T&C) and ensure alignment with existing operational requirements.

Provide subject-matter expertise on specifications and ensure compliance during handover.

Incident Response & Reporting

Provide on-call support for power failures or service-affecting incidents.

Lead or support emergency responses and ensure rapid restoration of services.

Prepare daily and periodic reports on performance, incidents, and corrective actions.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

Collaborate with other infrastructure teams (e.g., signaling, rolling stock, track) to ensure alignment.

Serve as a key liaison between maintenance and engineering teams for power-related issues.

Safety Responsibilities

Promote a positive safety culture within the workplace and attend any safety-related meetings or briefings as required within the job role.

Comply with the requirements of RDMC RQHSE Policy and Safety Management System.

Be mindful that Safety, Security, and Environmental protection are everyone’s responsibility.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related discipline.

Fluent in Arabic & English; French is a plus.

KNOWLEDGE:

Advanced understanding of traction and auxiliary power systems.

Solid knowledge of electrical engineering principles and safety regulations.

Familiar with CMMS (e.g.  Maximo) and document control systems.

Knowledge of relevant ISO and OHS standards.

EXPERIENCE:

5–7 years in railway, metro, or LRT environments.

Strong background in power supply engineering, including maintenance and production functions.

Experience with Testing & Commissioning and infrastructure projects.
