Mission
JOB PURPOSE:
The Track Cleaner is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, safety of railway tracks, the right-of-way, and surrounding operational areas. The role involves removing waste, debris, and other foreign objects that may obstruct railway operations or affect inspection and maintenance activities. The Track Cleaner also supports the protection of railway infrastructure by identifying and reporting hazards, security breaches, and unsafe conditions in accordance with established safety procedures.

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES
Track & Operational Area Cleaning
• Clean and remove waste, debris, sand, plastic materials, vegetation, and other foreign objects from railway tracks and surrounding operational areas, including:
o Track areas
o Ballast shoulders
o Walkways
o Drainage channels and pathways
• Ensure track areas and surrounding operational areas remain clean, accessible, and free from obstructions that could affect train operations, inspections, or maintenance activities.
Safety & Hazard Reporting
• Maintain a safe distance from live tracks and moving trains at all times.
• Immediately report unsafe conditions, obstructions, hazards, or any other safety concerns to the supervisor.
• Maintain awareness of operational activities and comply with all applicable railway safety procedures and instructions.
Security & Infrastructure Protection
• Monitor and report any security breaches or suspicious activities that could lead to theft, damage, or unauthorized access to railway infrastructure.
Trench Cover Plate Inspection
• Inspect trench cover plates within assigned areas and readjust displaced or misaligned plates to their correct and safe position, where it is safe and within the scope of the role.
• Immediately report any damaged, missing, unstable, or unsafe trench cover plates requiring maintenance or replacement.
Support to Track Maintenance Teams
• Assist track maintenance teams when required by providing non-technical support only.
• Follow instructions from the supervisor and maintenance team while ensuring that all assigned support activities are performed safely and within the scope of the position.
Safety Responsibilities
• Promote a positive safety culture within the workplace and attend any safety-related meetings or briefings as required within the job role.
• Comply with the requirements of RDMC RQHSE Policy and Safety Management System.
• Be mindful that Safety, Security, and Environmental protection are everyone’s responsibility.
• All staff members are accountable for reporting and intervening in any Safety, Security, or Environmental violations.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Any educational level.
KNOWLEDGE:
• Basic understanding of safety instructions.
• Ability to follow supervisor directions accurately.
• Physically fit to perform manual work.
EXPERIENCE:
• Previous experience in cleaning, construction, or outdoor work is an advantage.
