Mission
JOB PURPOSE:
To ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of Depot Equipment assets through the planning, coordination, and execution of preventive and corrective maintenance activities. The role provides technical support and operational guidance to maintenance teams, supports reliability improvement initiatives, and ensures compliance with railway safety, quality, and maintenance standards while contributing to continuous improvement and operational excellence.
Profile
RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES
Maintenance Operations & Coordination
• Oversee preventive and corrective maintenance activities for Depot Equipment in accordance with manufacturer recommendations, maintenance procedures, and safety standards.
• Monitor the execution of maintenance activities to ensure quality, efficiency, and timely completion.
• Coordinate and communicate with supervisors and maintenance teams regarding task allocation, maintenance priorities, and operational activities.
• Support workshop teams during major maintenance activities, technical interventions, and operational challenges.
• Ensure maintenance documentation, procedures, and records are properly maintained and updated.
• Manage site logistics activities including stock coordination, documentation control, and implementation of corrective or preventive measures.
Technical Support & Troubleshooting
• Provide technical guidance and operational support to supervisors, technicians, and junior engineers.
• Troubleshoot Depot Equipment faults, identify root causes, and ensure effective corrective actions and functional testing are completed.
• Participate in the review and improvement of maintenance plans, procedures, and technical checklists.
• Analyze equipment performance, maintenance findings, and operational issues to support reliability improvements.
• Prepare technical reports related to faults, failures, corrective actions, and maintenance activities.
• Support the implementation of maintenance best practices and technical improvements.
Asset Reliability & Continuous Improvement
• Support reliability-centered maintenance initiatives and continuous improvement activities.
• Ensure preventive maintenance activities are executed according to approved schedules and maintenance standards.
• Contribute technical feedback for modifications, process improvements, and maintenance optimization initiatives.
• Promote the implementation of predictive and condition-based maintenance methodologies.
• Support modernization, overhaul, and Depot Equipment enhancement projects.
Safety, Compliance & Quality
• Ensure compliance with HSE requirements, railway safety regulations, LOTO procedures, and permit-to-work systems.
• Conduct risk assessments and support the implementation of mitigation and corrective actions.
• Promote a strong safety culture and ensure safe working practices within maintenance activities.
• Ensure maintenance records and technical documentation are properly maintained for audits, inspections, and operational traceability.
• Monitor maintenance quality and ensure compliance with company standards and operational procedures.
Spare Parts & Technical Coordination
• Coordinate with suppliers, OEMs, procurement, and warehouse teams regarding technical specifications, spare parts, and engineering requirements.
• Support spare parts identification, material requests, and technical verification activities.
• Assist in inventory management and spare parts optimization to ensure operational availability of assets.
• Maintain accurate records of PM and CM activities, including faults logs, root causes, remedies, and operational reports.
Team Leadership & Development
• Support and deputize the Senior Depot Equipment Engineer when required.
• Supervise, mentor, and support technicians and junior engineers to enhance technical competency and performance.
• Coordinate team activities and support efficient allocation of manpower and resources.
• Contribute to workforce planning, employee development, and performance management activities.
• Promote teamwork, collaboration, and knowledge sharing within the maintenance organization.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
Education
• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
• Postgraduate studies or professional engineering certifications are considered an advantage.
• Fluent in English & Arabic, French is a plus.
Essential Knowledge & Technical Skills
• Strong knowledge of Depot Equipment and industrial machinery maintenance.
• Good understanding of railway environments, operational procedures, and maintenance standards.
• Advanced technical knowledge of:
o Electrical systems and industrial automation
o PLC systems (Siemens TIA Portal, Allen-Bradley RSLogix 500)
o VFDs/VSDs
o Industrial communication protocols (PROFIBUS, PROFINET)
o HMIs and industrial electronics
o Mechanical systems including motors, gearboxes, pumps, compressors, conveyors, hydraulics, and pneumatics
• Good understanding of preventive, predictive, and condition-based maintenance methodologies.
• Strong troubleshooting, fault diagnosis, and root cause analysis skills.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic drawings and schematics.
• Familiarity with spare parts catalogs, material identification, and consumables management.
• Knowledge of maintenance production and Lean Manufacturing principles.
• Understanding of change management and operational improvement practices.
• Good understanding of safety regulations and compliance requirements, including:
o LOTO procedures
o Permit-to-work systems
o Railway safety regulations
o Occupational Health & Safety standards
• Experience using Maintenance Management Systems (MMS) such as Maximo.
• Proficiency in MS Office applications, especially Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD is preferred.
Experience
• 3–5 years of experience in Depot Equipment operation and maintenance within the railway industry.
• Experience supervising or coordinating technicians and junior engineers.
• Experience working in operationally demanding and productivity-focused environments.
• Experience supporting change management initiatives and organizational alignment is preferred.
