Mission

JOB PURPOSE: 

To lead and manage the safe, reliable, and efficient operation and maintenance of the Signaling systems across the railway network. This role ensures full compliance with safety and regulatory requirements, drives technical excellence, and optimizes asset performance through proactive maintenance strategies, team leadership, and effective use of enterprise systems (e.g., Maximo). The Head of Signaling is a key figure in ensuring uninterrupted train operations through data-driven decision-making, vendor supervision, and a strong focus on continuous improvement.


Profile

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES 

Maintenance Operations & Technical Oversight

Lead and supervise signaling maintenance activities to ensure high standards of safety, quality, and reliability.

Implement and monitor preventive and corrective maintenance programs aligned with operational requirements.

Conduct asset condition surveys and ensure timely completion of repairs.

Analyze obsolescence issues in the system and recommend upgrade or renewal strategies.

Ensure timely resolution of equipment defects to reduce system downtime.

Team & Contractor Management

Supervise internal staff and subcontractors to ensure compliance with performance standards and scope of work.

Validate subcontractor tools, equipment calibration, and adherence to cleanliness and housekeeping standards.

Monitor and verify the use of approved spare parts and materials.

Conduct spot inspections and verify task execution quality against specifications.

Safety, Environment & Compliance 

Ensure all maintenance activities are performed in line with environmental and occupational safety regulations (e.g., OHS Act).

Enforce housekeeping and workplace safety practices among teams and subcontractors.

Immediately report and escalate any safety violations or environmental hazards to Executive Maintenance.

Ensure that all staff and contractors are compliant with site-specific safety and operational regulations.

Maximo & Asset Management System 

Oversee the use of Maximo (or equivalent EAM system) for work order management, asset tracking, and maintenance history logging.

Ensure data integrity, timely input, and closure of maintenance tasks in Maximo.

Review reports and analytics from Maximo to identify trends, gaps, and opportunities for improvement.

Support performance reporting and asset lifecycle planning using system-generated data.

Budget & Performance Monitoring

Review monthly maintenance expenses and analyze budget variances.

Optimize resource allocation and cost-effectiveness of maintenance operations.

Contribute to performance improvement initiatives targeting reduced downtime and cost efficiency.

Continuous Improvement & Strategic Support

Promote a culture of continuous improvement within the signaling team.

Recommend process enhancements and new technologies to improve maintenance efficiency and reliability.

Take ownership of delegated tasks and support cross-functional collaboration within the Systems Department.

Perform additional duties and special assignments as requested by management.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's Degree in Electronics Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or related field.

KNOWLEDGE:

In-depth understanding of Signaling systems, principles, and maintenance techniques.

Strong knowledge of maintenance management systems, preferably Maximo.

Familiarity with railway infrastructure, safety regulations, and asset lifecycle management.

EXPERIENCE:

7–10 years of progressive experience in signaling maintenance, preferably within the railway industry.

Proven experience managing teams and subcontractors in a safety-critical environment.
